FANTASTIC FOOTBALL FEVER (EPISODE - 09)

Arindam: - Good evening, viewers. In this episode of ‘Fantastic Football Fever’ program in your favorite ‘Royal Bengal Tiger (RBT)’ TV Channel, we have invited a famous England footballer, whose name is David Beckham. Mr. Beckham, welcome to our show. You may be very disappointed because due to injuries, you cannot play in this world cup.

Beckham: - Well, that’s part of life. You have to accept it and move forward. This time, I am unlucky. It’s always better luck next time. But, I don’t know whether I will be playing international football till the next FIFA World Cup or not.

Arindam: - Hmm…well, I can understand your feelings. Ok, let us hear about the match between England and Algeria. Mr. ARINAN, please proceed.

Mr. ARINAN: - the British Bull dogs started fighting against African Desert foxes, but foxes are the cunning species. Foxes started to spoil the game of the bull dogs in the midfield region. As a net result, the bull dogs started chasing the desert foxes without any strategy or plan. That’s why, at the end of the day, the foxes and the dogs shared 1 point each with a mere goalless draw.

Arindam: - Oops! Mr. Beckham, your England team is surely missing you. In this match, your team kicked out Green and brought in James. James did well. But the players like Rooney, Heskey, Terry and Gerrard played football without any plan.

Beckham: - It is indeed very frustrating when you don’t find goals despite having so many great players in your team. I am surprised that they played silly football whenever they were entering the penalty area of Algeria.

Arindam: - Surely, the whole world is missing you. Ronaldinho became famous much later. Before that, you were famous for your terrific swinging free-kicks. Every young footballer used to admire your free-kick. Even they still say, ‘Bend it like Beckham’. Your comment ‘I am what I am’ is also famous worldwide. How you used to swing the ball so much in your free-kicks? What is the technique behind it? Jabulani ball does not swing too much, but, I am very sure that if you would have played in this world cup, then we must have seen the swinging Jabulani.

Beckham: - There is no such technique behind those swinging free-kicks. Only thing you need to do is to measure the angle from your eyes and have a prior idea about the distance that the ball is going to traverse. If you are taking a free kick from a 30 m distance, then kick the ball in a diagonal direction keeping your body bent towards your left side. The ball will swing automatically while in the air. When you are taking a free kick from a 17m distance, then don’t kick the ball hard. If you do that; the ball will traverse above the goal post. Just chip the ball by using the tip of your boot. But in this case, keep your body straight while taking the kick to get the ball swing. Practice makes a man perfect. Practice is the keyword here. I always used to practice taking free-kicks from long distances in the training session. If you can score goals from a long distance with your speedy swinging shots, then nothing can be better than that.

Arindam: - This was all about football. But, side by side, you are also a stylish person. Your hair-cut is also famous. Whether you are in Manchester United or Real Madrid, people love to watch you in the ground; especially the young girls are just crazy about you. They are jealous of your wife.

Beckham: - Well, in this case, I can’t help it. But, I am lucky to be her hubby. At the back-end, my wife is my motivator, no matter, how much she criticizes or fights with me.

Arindam: - Hmm…behind a man, there is a woman! Anyway, viewers, before signing out, Mr. ARINAN will tell you about the other matches.

Mr. ARINAN: - White Eagles hunted the countrymen of Hitler with 1 winning goal. Klose was shown a Red Card and Polidski missed the penalty. In another encounter, USA fought back with 2 goals. USA also got another goal, but, alas, the referee wrongly cancelled it. Anyway, both USA and Slovenia produced some entertaining football to end the match with 2-2.
